The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer following any accounts on Instagram. That’s right, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle literally unfollowed everyone and fans started freaking out trying to figure out why.
We don’t believe they’re mad at the world or trying to be petty in any way so what’s the deal? Well, we now have the answer. Here’s the reason the couple decided to hit the unfollow button on social media.

When they launched their Instagram account
Once upon a time, Harry and his wife shared the Kensington Royal Instagram account with Prince William and Kate Middleton. In early April though that changed when the Sussexes launched their own account.
Their first post explained just what the pair was hoping to accomplish using a separate account.
“We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues,” the caption read.
Markle previously had her own social media accounts as well as a lifestyle blog called The Tig, but she shut those down months before she and the prince walked down the aisle. The account she shares with her husband currently has over 9 million followers. But how come they’re not following anyone now?
Why they unfollowed everyone
Turns out the duke and duchess have a very good reason as to why the number of accounts they follow is at zero.
First, we’ll note that this is only temporary as they will be following specific accounts next week. The couple revealed this is a recent post.
“For the month of August we look to you for help,” the duo wrote. “We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is… Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organizations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large”
“Over the next few days please add your suggestions into the comments section: someone you look up to, the organization doing amazing work that we should all be following, an account that inspires you to be and do better (or that simply makes you feel good), or the handle that brims with optimism for a brighter tomorrow,” the message continued. “We will choose 15 accounts and follow them next Monday, as we spend the month of August acknowledging the Forces for Change in all of our lives.”

The royal pair also caused a stir last May when amid feud rumors, they stopped following the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s Kensington Royal account.
They shared then that in honor of Mental Health Awareness month that they were only going to follow a small number of accounts to shine a light on different causes their followers might be interested in as well.
“To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection,” the post read. “There are countless organizations doing amazing work for mental health –please consider the accounts we’ve highlighted as a small snapshot of this global support network. We are all in this together.”
